PERSONAL TESTIMONY – DR. LORI
I was born on a farm in Iowa and worked with my grandmother in a food catering business while growing up. At a young age, I was active in 4 H and Future Homemakers of America which introduced the importance of: “You are what you eat”.
My mother became ill when I was a child and my memories were of her purse full of prescription drugs to cure her. She died at the young age of 51. I then became more aware of the increase of prescription drug use in America, which I decided to seek alternative health solutions in addition to traditional medicine.
I attended Life Chiropractic College in Georgia and become interested in nutrition during my studies. I married Jody Serra, a Chiropractor, and have been active in helping in natural healthcare for over 24 years in Lebanon, NJ.
I always ate a very healthy diet, exercised and have had chiropractic adjustments since I was a child, however; in 2001 I became ill with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a bladder infection. After ten days of antibiotics and a pain killer, I was then diagnosed with an abscess on my appendix the size of an infant’s head. My first surgery was to drain the infection, then 10 days later an emergency surgery because of gangrene (death of soft tissue due to obstructed circulation) and peritonitis (inflammation of the lining of the abdominal cavity) in my abdomen. This was a near death situation for me.
My experience of a four month recovery and two hospital visits made me realize that I wanted to maintain a healthy body and avoid illness, if possible. With the desire to seek natural methods of healing, I started my journey to eat better, however; my health still did not recover. My energy was gone and naps were a part of my daily routine.
January 2004 I decided to go back to college to study nutrition and became a Doctor of Naturopathy through Clayton College of Natural Health. Through my studies my awareness increased of the many herbs, whole food supplements and homeopathic products to allow the body to heal itself and maintain wellness. (Presently, I am in the process of continuing my education for a PhD in Natural Health.)
In September 2007 I was introduced to Nutrition Response Testing. I have found this technique beneficial to accurately analyze the nutrition deficiencies in an individual’s body to help aid the body to heal itself. With many positive results from the use of whole food nutrition supplements from Standard Process, herbs and homeopathic remedies, I have found the answer that restored health to my body and has given me a way to maintain it. Nutrition Response Testing is a way to invest in wellness instead of waiting until the body is ill and then investing in sick care. The most precious commodity is the health of your body and it is worth the time and effort to do so.
Since following the Nutrition Response Testing protocol, my energy has been restored, and an increase for my passion for natural healing and to help others restore their bodies in the same way has been realized.
Blessings,
Lori M. Serra, ND
